Debbie Mandel, a stress management expert, discusses the reasons why people get lonely and how to cure those feelings of loneliness. What is the best cure for loneliness, and what is the best method for getting yourself back into the world? It is important to remember to find out what makes you unique; once you do that, society will be waiting anxiously to see the contributions that you as an individual can bring to the table.
Debbie: Loneliness can be a result of stress where you feel alienated because you're upset and unhappy, but we also get stressed when we're lonely, so it's a two-fold issue. Loneliness has usually been treated by, "go mingle," or go into a group with other lonely miserable people, but what usually happens is that one feeds off of the other, and when you're lonely you're not going to mingle, and you're not going to feel comfortable with yourself. Here's the direct target for loneliness that can change your life: It all comes back to you, who are you, what is your empowerment. What is your strength, what makes you unique. Lonely people feel they don't measure up to other people, and that's why they're lonely. Take back your power, and then you'll go out there, and you'll be in rhythm with everyone else because you'll have something to contribute.
