Debbie Mandel, a stress management expert, breaks down the main difference with how males handle stress. She urges that before attacking the male species as a whole, that we need to realize first how and why men suppress much of their feelings. Only then can we truly understand one another.
Debbie: Men are able to compartmentalize better, but they do have a hard time, and before we attack the male species we should realize that they suppress a lot. They don't have the outlet of women, who tend and befriend with their girlfriends; women get it out. Men say, "I'm not a man, and I am not gonna show it." Suppression comes at a cost, and men turn to substance abuse and alcohol more than women, so both sides are stressed. It's just in our expression, and then we get conflict so that becomes a problem. We need to understand our different responses.
