Achieving a sense of serenity and awareness is not as difficult as it may seem. Lana Masor, MS, 500-RYT, teaches us about the many physical and mental benefits of a Vinyasa yoga practice.
Lana: Yoga is becoming more and more popular because people are finally realizing the benefits it can bring to the body as well as the mind. A yoga practice helps people feel more in the moment, it brings them a sense of serenity, it tends to quiet the monkey-mind chatter that we all experience on a daily basis. There are so many physical benefits to a Vinyasa yoga practice. One of them is that it helps to increase the heart rate, increase blood flow to the body, so a lot of people that experience joint pain seem to have some relief from a daily yoga practice. It also helps to tone the body, keeping your muscles strong as well as flexible. Many times we hear people talk about the mind-body connection and spiritually Vinyasa yoga helps bring more awareness to things that we don't really give so much attention to on a daily basis. There are so many benefits to a Vinyasa yoga practice, both mentally, spiritually and physically. I encourage everyone to try a Vinyasa yoga class, and to be patient with themselves, it really could take anywhere from five to ten, maybe fifteen classes until you really start to feel and experience the benefits of the practice.
