My goal with "Rare Tumor" community (diagnosis: low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm) is to educate people through my experiences, challenges, and recovery from a tumor diagnosis in my cecum and appendix during a colonoscopy procedure. Interesting moments here in the hospital at Mt. Sinai that I'll look to capture include review of family history, treatment, pain management, recovery path, receiving the diagnosis, taking the prognosis home, and my feelings and concerns all along the way. You'll note from my photo that I also intend on adding as much comedy and creativity as possible. To me that's a staple in any community on or offline.

Survivorship is a journey complicated by the scars left behind–both visible and invisible, and by the lifelong effects of chemo and other treatment. This community welcomes parents, survivors of any age, their caregivers, friends, medical professionals and the wonderful people who help support families through this journey,
A few facts from the National Cancer Institute:
As of 2011, at least 388,501 American cancer survivors were first diagnosed when they were under the age of 21. Advances in cancer treatment mean that today more than 80 percent of children diagnosed with cancer are alive at least five years after diagnosis.
